take measurements
First, measure the length and width of your room’s main area.
Next, measure the length and width of any square or rectangular recesses and record those
measurements below.
Measure the width and height of any windows in the room.
Measure the width and height of any permanent features in the room, such as fireplaces or built-in
bookcases.
On the next page, draw your room to scale using the graph paper provided on the last page of this
workbook. Be sure to mark where any windows, doors, and other permanent features (such as builtins or fireplaces) are, including the position of those items in the room. If your fireplace has 4 feet
of wall space to the left and 8 feet of wall space to the right, those are measurements you need to
know as you work on your room design! Below is an example of what your room sketch may look like.
