FRED SMITH, M.D.

Frederick P. Smith, M.D., is a boardcertified medical oncologist with over
40 years of experience. A native of
Burma, Dr. Smith attended Niagara
University in New York and later attended
St. Louis University Medical School, where
he graduated cum laude. Following medical
school, he completed residency and oncology
training at Georgetown University’s Lombardi
Cancer Center. He remained a full-time member
of Georgetown’s academic faculty for five
years and actively participated in clinical trials,
teaching, and patient care.
Dr. Smith is well-published, having contributed
to over 70 oncology publications throughout
his career. He has been in private practice in
the D.C. metropolitan area for many years and
is affiliated with Sibley Memorial Hospital of
Washington, D.C., and Suburban Hospital of
Bethesda, MD.
In practice, he continues to pursue
cutting-edge cancer care focused on
the comfort and satisfaction of each
patient and their family. Over the
years, Dr. Smith has directed countless patients
to LUNGevity’s resources and is well known
for his compassionate care and commitment
to supporting his patients. Dr. Smith has also
been an integral advocate in the community to
promote access to clinical research.
In 2019, Bethesda Magazine listed Dr. Fred Smith
as a Top Doctor in the D.C. metropolitan area.
Dr. Fred Smith continues to be a beloved member
of the greater Washington, D.C. community and
his laudable work on behalf of his patients and
their families is one of the many reasons he is
honored here this evening.
