Coolmore’s international stud success Fastnet Rock
(Danehill), twice champion sire in past seasons, again
demonstrated his consistency to fill third place on the
Australian general sires’ table last season followed
by two now deceased former NSW stallions in High
Chaparral and Street Cry.
Following them on the leading sires’ list for last season
were Not a Single Doubt and Sebring with Lonhro and
his champion son Pierro in ninth and 10th places.
Widden Stud’s sensational young stallion Zoustar
(Northern Meteor) was a decisive winner of the title for
last season’s champion first season sire in Australia
and it is expected his stock should be even better suited
as three-year-olds.
Lonhro (YtS 2004)
Other young NSW sires Sizzling (Snitzel) and Epaulette
(Commands) also got off to promising starts with
their first juveniles last season with Epaulette earning
further kudos in having a NSW-bred runner capture a
Group 1 event in South Africa.
Past and present NSW-based stallions dominated the
general sires’ list for 2017/18, filling 18 of the top 20 places.
Similarly, now retired NSW stallion Encosta de Lago
topped last season’s list of leading broodmare sires
ahead of the still active Redoute’s Choice.
Fastnet Rock further added to his career achievements
last season when his outstanding filly Avantage made
him New Zealand’s champion sire of two-year-olds.
