President’s Report
President’s Report
It’s here already, the 2018 breeding season has begun with a grand line
up of NSW sires parading the barns, foals landing and the buzz of the
excitement warms up for the Spring Racing Carnival.
With Twin Hills Stud and Pepper Tree farm opening the start of the Stallion
parades, the hype of the Hunter Valley Studs there’s never a dull weekend at
this time of year. Next stop Kooringal parades on 16th September.
The 2017-18 racing season was once again dominated by NSW horses,
as the stats rolled in for the year, we’re ramping up to announce our award
winners at our Annual Awards luncheon held this year at Royal Randwick
Ballroom on September 15, we hope you’ll join us for a great day of racing
whilst celebrating our award winners and watch the mighty NSW Bred Winx
head for a third title.
This year’s Breeders Seminars in August, at Hunter Valley and Wagga
Wagga, were very well attended and almost at capacity. Feedback from the
groups was extremely positive once again. Members heard from Australia’s
leading equine veterinarians and industry professionals and set off with
newly absorbed knowledge ready for the upcoming season. Topics included;
Mare reproduction, Mare cycle management, Foaling, Neonatal foals, Foal
farriery, Stallion Physiology, X-Rays and Scoping, Nutrition on Stud farms,
Weanling to Sale ring, Health & Wellbeing and current challenges. A huge
thank you to our lecturers for their time, quality presentations and wealth of
knowledge shared with our attendees.
A major focus on the drought was a key indicator from most lecturers, all
farms and breeders preparing and rearing horses, are looking at reformed
nutrition plans and developed information of agronomy requirements
leading into spring.
Many of the attendees had travelled from all around the
state and a few inter-states, which has our board looking into the possibility
of running seminars in other locations such as Sydney, we welcome all
feedback from our members and look forward to hearing your ideas for
locations and topics that would benefit our members next year.
