Introducing temporary works training
1.1
This publication is for use by those attending temporary works training courses and is

based on the management procedures for the control of temporary works as described
in BS 5975-1:2024. In addition, the syllabus covered is fully compliant with BS 59751:2024 clause 4.2.1 and CITB’s scheme of works for temporary works training courses.
1.2
This Study Pack can also be used on completion of training by managers and
supervisors as reference material and should be used in conjunction with the Managers
Guide that is presented as a ‘bite-sized’ guide providing basic and fundamental
information acting as a gateway to further reading to more comprehensive reference
and technical material to safely execute temporary works.
1.3
This publication covers the requirements of CITB’s trainers reference document version
02.03 and fully covers the learning outcomes for the following CITB Site Safety Plus
(SSP) courses:

a.
2-day temporary works coordinator training course (TWCTC)
b.
1-day temporary works coordinator training course refresher (TWCTCR)
c.
1-day temporary works supervisor training course (TWSTC)
Whilst there are no pre-requisites to attend temporary works training courses,
delegates who have achieved CITB’s Site Supervision Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS)
or Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS), or an equivalent qualification,
will likely have a base level of knowledge and understanding related to the management
control of temporary works and associated legislation and other industry guidance.
1.5
Suitability for attendance a temporary works training course should be checked by the
employer and training provider prior to booking. Your trainer will undertake an initial
assessment prior to the start of the course.
