TXAPA-ANNUAL-REPORT-27Jan2020-Flip - Page 12

There is no better way to tell
the story of TXAPA’s work than
through it’s member-driven
Getting Things Done For Asphalt Pavement in Texas
The majority of this report consists of the accomplishments of
our committees. Each committee is led by a member chairperson
who receives support from a member of our board of directors
and a member of our staff. It is through these coordinated efforts
that the real work of the association takes place.
There are two types of TXAPA committees: member-led committees,
primarily comprised of TXAPA members, and joint committees,
which are co-chaired by a TXAPA member and TxDOT personnel
and whose efforts may encompass other similarly aligned
associations such as the Associated General Contractors (AGC).
Both committee types achieved great success in 2019, from the
establishment of a Balanced Mix Design and the newly-revamped
TXAPA/TxDOT Quality Asphalt Pavement Awards, to our TXAPA
Scholarship Program Auction Committee which helped the
association once again exceed the previous year’s fundraising,
with a whopping $527,000 to support promising students at
trade schools and universities throughout Texas.
2019 Annual Report
Kicking off the Committee Activities section of this report is
an unsung hero of the association, the Finance and Building
Committee. The committee budgeted and oversaw the design,
build, and finishing of an additional 10,500 square-feet of office
and meeting space, an essential foundation for our mission in
2020 and well beyond.
Since officially completing our headquarters expansion project in
April 2019, we have hosted events such as the Asphalt Road-eo
Student Engineering Competition and our Strategic Planning
Sessions, when committee chairs gather to set goals and map
out strategies to accomplish them.
These activities are only the beginning. Our goal was to create
a place where members could gather and work to advance our
shared mission to promote asphalt pavement quality in Texas. As
we launch our Texas Asphalt Pavement Quality Initiative in early
2020, the new TXAPA Campus will play an integral role. In terms
of success, things could not have gone more according to plan!
