Exhibition of Paintings by Contemporary artist
Maureen Chatfield at Gill St. Bernard9s School
A
n exhibition of paintings by Contemporary artist Maureen Chatfield of Tewksbury is currently on view in the F.M. Kirby Hall
Gallery in the Performing Arts and Community Center at Gill St. Bernard9s School. Many of these paintings have not been
previously shown and they mark their debut in a collection of works that span two distinct series by the artist, The Modern Landscape
and Abstract Expressionism. In her non-objective, abstract work, color harmonies, receding and overlapping lines and mark making
emerge from responses to the myriad forces that shape her life, emotions, and memories. Her modern landscapes arise from direct experience, what she sees in nature captured and transformed onto canvas. Curated by Sarah Isusi, Fine Arts Department Chair and
Maureen Chatfield, these works were carefully selected to represent the breadth and depth of styles and subjects M. Chatfield portrays
in her work. As part of a visiting artist series, M. Chatfield will be artist-in-residence at Gill for the month of December and will give
an artist talk on December 11, followed by a masterclass on Painting the Modern Landscape on December 14. Gill St. Bernard9s school
is thrilled to showcase M. Chatfield9s work and we look forward to how her life and work will inspire, instruct, and inform our school
community. The show will remain up through January.
