ETHICAL & MORAL
LEADERSHIP
US
Examine current local, national, and
international leadership challenges
from a moral and ethical framework.
Through research and interviews of
prominent leaders in the DMV and more
broadly, students will develop a model
of decision making to inform their own
future leadership endeavors as CEOs,
entrepreneurs, nonprofit fundraisers,
and changemakers. This decision
making model will be applied to real
world scenarios in a culminating project
presented to local leaders.

THE NATURAL & CULTURAL
HISTORY OF ROCK CREEK PARK
Spend time outdoors learning about
the local environment in research and
producing an interpretive trail guide for
Rock Creek Park that focuses on the history
and natural history of the park. In addition
to classroom and field research, students
will learn to use digital mapping and
geolocation tools to create a multimedia
platform for learning about Rock Creek
Park. The class will require extended
periods of outdoor activity in the winter
months.
MODEL UN CULTURE
& IMMERSION
During the Model UN intersession time,
students will divide the period into three
separate sections. The first three days will
be devoted to honing and deeply preparing
for the NAIMUN Model UN conference run
by Georgetown University. We will fully edit
position papers, have mock committee
sessions, and go over conference
procedure. From February 17th through
the 20th, students will attend the NAIMUN
conference in the Dupont neighborhood
of DC. We will meet up during the day to
debrief the committee and have lunch. The
final four days of intersession will be spent
going over the conference in full. We also
plan to have community partners come to
campus and speak to students about their
work with or in the United Nations.

TESLA’S & LOVELACE’S
TINKERER’S GARAGE
Ever wanted to invent something to make
the world a better place? Code an app that
increases sustainability? Make the world
more equitable? Improve accessibility in
our local area for everyone? Just make
something new? In this Intersession,
students will focus on researching an
existing real-world problem, design
possible solutions, commit to one, produce
a prototype of their product, test it out,
and pitch their idea to a guest expert.
Students will work through the design
cycle, modeling the process inventors,
engineers, and designers use to produce
many goods and products found in stores
and in everyday life. Students can work
as individuals or in small teams. All ideas,
great and small, are welcome; no previous
experience with inventing or tinkering is
required. Everyone starts somewhere, and
Tesla & Lovelace’s Tinkerer’s Garage just
might be that for you.
