ADAPTIVE CAPACITY
Individual adaptive capacity was calculated based on a series of questions aimed to assess flexibility, financial
capacity, and community support (Figure 6). Overall, survey respondents did not appear to have extensive
confidence in their ability to respond to changes in fisheries by getting additional financial support or changing
fisheries or professions. Fifty-six percent of respondents reported that they felt constrained in their ability to
adapt to climate change because of fisheries regulations and 52% did not think that fisheries management could
adapt and respond quickly to changing environmental conditions (Figure 6). Only 24% of survey respondents
felt they could easily find work in another natural resource industry such as aquaculture or forestry and 43%
think they could easily get income not related to fishing or other natural resource jobs (Figure 6). Only 10% of
respondents feel like they could easily move into a new fishery (Figure 6).
