The Mystique that is Mystic
At a glance
Founded in 1654, and situated halfway between New York City and
Boston, this charming Connecticut village known as Mystic (which
includes parts of Groton and Stonington) is a little oasis for residents
and visitors alike. Entering the town, one immediately gets the sense
that we are stepping back in time, when Mystic was once a bustling
shipbuilding seaside village with a well-heeled maritime past.
Out and about
Mystic’s 4 square miles are packed with many surprises and much to
explore. The lively and walkable town is dotted with the homes of old
ship captains, as well as by restaurants, eclectic shops and galleries, and

the much treasured Mystic Seaport and Mystic Aquarium. Spanning
the Mystic River is the famed Bascule Drawbridge that was opened in
1920 and offers expansive views of the waterway that spills out to Long
Island Sound.
The river also offers locals and visitors a place to play, where anyone
can jump in a kayak or paddleboard, or even take a unique guided
boat tour up and down the coastline (in a 2-person boat) allowing for
up close views of historic landmarks along Mystic River. Mystic River
Park, situated southeast of the Bascule Drawbridge is a town green and
a beautiful boardwalk where residents and visitors can relax, fish, and
attend concerts in the park in the summer months.
