Final Tech Report HD - Flipbook - Page 30
So what next?
The constant technological change is now more pervasive than
ever. Technology is ubiquitous, not just in the financial services
sector, but permeating every single aspect of our lives.
Moreover, the traditional business and economic lines are
blurring: technological developments are coming hand in
hand with fundamental changes, just like fire, the wheel, the
steam engine, the lightbulb or the telephone did. However, the
process of learning to utilise the new tools, and to develop the
skill to do so in the most advantageous way is different this
time: the pace is fast, the impact is global.
So where do I see technology heading in the next 1-3 years for
Ireland’s financial services industry?
I see the technology in the financial services in Ireland moving
to the background. Becoming invisible. I see the highly skilled
financial services talent pool becoming proficient in new
disruptive technologies, to the point that the technology itself
ceases to be a speaking topic. It will be the application of that
technology that becomes the new reality, how it empowers:
the new business models, the improved customer experiences,
the adapted cognitive analytical risk tools.
We can and should contemplate who we can be, as a financial
services sector, if we embrace the new finance era of the 3 D’s:
digitalisation, decentralisation, and decarbonisation.
Imagine what a change that could be in 10 years from now.
