Supporting the research endeavour
Understanding community currencies in rural Africa
Around 2 000 community currencies are used around the world, providing an alternative
way of exchanging goods and services when, for whatever reason, the national currency
is unavailable. Will Ruddick, founder of Grassroots Economics and PhD researcher,
is collecting survey data to evaluate the impact of these alternative currencies. UCT
eResearch assisted with the storage of that data.
eResearch is a service with a purpose, and that purpose
is to support and accelerate research at UCT. It doesn’t
matter who is conducting the research or how big it is.
For some research projects, such as this one, a simple
server can make all the difference.
