An unforgettable cruise to
Martillo Island, Ushuaia.
Left: The pretty town of
San Carlos de Bariloche.
Take in waterfalls, ocean
views and the jaw-dropping
natural beauty Patagonia
is famous for.
Valdes Peninsula, Argentina
The Valdes Peninsula, a UNESCO World Heritage
Site, reaches out into the Atlantic Ocean and is
known as Patagonia’s top destination for wildlife.
It is a remarkably rich area for birdlife, including the
world’s largest colony of Magellanic penguins, as
well as being a marine animals conservation site.
Ushuaia, Argentina
Ushuaia is the southernmost city in the world,
and so is the departure point for many Antarctica
cruises. But you don’t have to venture far to
discover stunning landscapes, rare wildlife and
untouched corners.
Perito Moreno Glacier, Los
Glaciares National Park.
A day trip to Tierra del Fuego National Park will
reward you with breathtaking views and beautiful,
vast nothingness. The ‘End of the World’ train is
a fun way to enter the park, and you’ll see some
stunning spots en route. Once there, you can
choose over 20 miles of hiking trails, taking in
waterfalls, ocean views and the jaw-dropping
natural beauty Patagonia is famous for. And, for
an adorable dose of wildlife, a visit to Martillo
Island will allow you to walk through colonies of
penguins – who are equally curious to meet you!
El Calafate, Argentina
Perched on the edge of the Patagonia ice昀椀eld,
El Calafate, a small but vibrant town, is the ideal
location from which to explore the mighty Los
Glaciares National Park, home of the iconic
Perito Moreno Glacier. Despite reaching heights
of over 70m, this ever-shifting icy landscape is
remarkably accessible to visitors, who can elect
to step across its crisp, frosty surface or view it
from boats or boardwalks.
Also located within the park, you’ll 昀椀nd the small
village of El Chalten, known as the ‘National
Capital of Trekking’. Living up to its name, it o昀昀ers
a wide range of stunning hikes with well-marked
trails to suit all 昀椀tness levels, including the famous
Mount Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre. The option to
camp overnight will delight adventure seekers
looking to experience a taste of the wild, and you’ll
be rewarded with stunning sunrises and sunsets.
AUTUMN/WINTER 2023
A top destination for whale-watching, whether
by boat, plane or kayak, huge southern right
whales are virtually guaranteed between August
and November. Orcas are also known to hunt
near the shoreline and can regularly be seen
from November to April. Sea
lions and dolphins can also
be seen year-round, and
we recommend kayaking,
snorkelling or scuba diving
with them for the ultimate
up-close experience.
San Carlos de Bariloche, Argentina
At the foot of the Andes, Bariloche is situated
in the Argentine Lake District, surrounded by
crystal clear waters and epic forests, making it
ideal for watersports, sailing, 昀椀shing, hiking and
horse riding. The nearby Catedral Alta ski resort,
which boasts over 30 lifts and o昀昀ers 3,000 acres
of pristine on- and o昀昀-piste terrain, will thrill keen
skiers and snowboarders.
This beautiful city has more
than a feel of Switzerland,
with its Alpine architecture
and shops plying handcrafted chocolate.
O昀昀ering lively bars and a
range of traditional and
contemporary restaurants,
it’s little wonder Bariloche
is considered, by many, to
be the ‘heart’ of Patagonia.
