CORNWALL
FORUM
Words by MARK O’BRIEN
CALLING NEW MEMBERS
The remaining committee members would love
some new people to join the Forum to develop
its relationship with Cornwall Council and to
provide fresh ideas for events and information
to residents. Committee member, Liz Grant said
“We would welcome any park home resident
in Cornwall to become a committee member
and help us to form a new committee. You
don’t need to have any specialist experience
or knowledge to join the committee however
the following skills would be really helpful but
aren’t essential”. Now, the Committee has taken
the decision to postpone their Annual General
Meeting, scheduled for 28th September, as
they seek to recruit new members to help take
the Forum forward.
OUR GOAL
So, what does the committee do? The committee
meets approximately every six to eight weeks
to discuss park home matters and to plan
various activities, such as the open meetings.
Broadly-speaking, the Forum aims to provide
one to two open meetings a year. Members are
encouraged to book venues, arrange refreshments
and produce a flyer for prospective residents.
While there has been a natural turnover
of committee members, the Forum currently
finds itself at a position where, through different
reasons, many members have required to
stepdown from their duties.
Committee member, Ken Washbrook, said
“We have officers from Cornwall Council’s
Localism Team there to support us and provide
advice. They are there in an advisory capacity
and really help us to form links and get through
to the people in the Council should we need to
speak to them.”

The Forum held its first meeting in June
2014. Since then, they have held open
meetings and events for park home
residents across Cornwall. The committee
is run by a small but dedicated group
of volunteers who are all park home
residents.

We would welcome
any park home
resident in Cornwall
to become a
committee member
and help us to form a
new committee

While, Liz Grant added: “We are also really
pleased to also have the continued support
of our sponsor, Community Warmth, who has
provided funding to help us with our activities
as well as ongoing opportunities to take ideas
forward.”
