Challenge Two
Volunteer Engagement
Changing the perception and reluctance
of engaging with drama activities
amongst the volunteers in order
to increase engagement with the
programme.
Problem Solving
To gently encourage library volunteers to
take part and increase their confidence
with this art form, we arranged for some
of them to attend the school sessions to
observe and join in.
Outcome
Drama through play and exploration
with early years children can be
intimidating for some volunteers and
isn’t for everyone. Our Libraries Live
champion volunteer was able to attend
a few sessions which made a big
difference. To experience the activities
hands on and see the benefits and
impact this accessible art form made to
the children, helped changed attitudes
and enable a re-connection with an
important part of their community

Top Tip
The relevant activity of
interest for the audience
isn’t always an activity
that is accessible to your
staff. It’s always best to take
people on the journey with
you, showing the benefits
and difference you can
make by seeing others join
in and the impact in real
time is the perfect way to
convince people of why
they should get involved.
