Challenge Three
Online Promotion
Glascote Library does not have an
established social media platform to help
connect with the local community and
advertise events. Facebook is a highly
used platform for families through
family groups, buying and selling
communities and to identify local events
they can attend. As an early years’
project this was a big barrier in attracting
participants.
Problem Solving
As many of our target groups were using
the facilities nearby, we used the project
branding as much as possible, displaying
posters and flyers in local newsletters,
shops, children centre, health centre and
had a large display in library windows
and foyer area.
Outcome
The targeted programme of engagement
through schools and nurseries helped
to build longer term partnerships for the
libraries which could enable their social
media growth.
Inviting children to return to the library
for the commissioned performance and
exhibition, encouraged children to re-visit
the library with their families to celebrate
their achievement and take part in a
positive and quality experience for all.
However, promoting workshops in this
way did not prove effective and further
re-enforced the need to develop
partnerships and meaningful
relationships with families first in order
to grow a potential digital audience.
