Bobbi in the Blue Room
Bobbi in the Blue Room is an authentic
piece of children’s theatre created from
the ideas and stories developed from the
sessions with the children.
The commissioned piece is a story from
the perspective of a young child who
sees change happening around them
but without any explanation of why
it has to happen. Exemplifying their
journey through frustration, curiosity
and understanding to drive the narrative.
The story is set in a single space and
adapted to the different settings of the
story, highlighting different methods of
telling the story. This concept relates to
the imaginative play and re-imagining
objects that was explored throughout
the residency and understood more by
children than adults.
‘Meet Bobbi in the blue room, his new
room. It’s a good room, full of toys and
things to explore and maybe even a
spider with roller skates. There’s only
one thing wrong with the room- it’s new!
It’s not at all like the old room and why
did it all have to change, anyway?
Will you come and help Bobbi to settle in
and see if the new blue room can finally
feel like home?’
In order to increase the accessibility
and legacy of this piece of theatre it has
been performed at partner libraries to
further develop their relationship with
local schools and nurseries. A film of the
piece is part of the Libraries Live touring
exhibition with accompanying props and
activities which will return to Glascote to
continue to engage young children and
their families at the library.
