Build the roof:
Drape your blankets, bed sheets or material
over your structure and secure using your
pegs or tape. This step can be a little tricky
as your roof may cave in a little and so you
may need to adjust the position of your
structure but be careful as your pegs may
ping off when the blanket gets tugged.
Story making:
Encourage children and families to make
up their own stories using the den as
inspiration and create their own characters.
You may use something as a starting point,
such as an unusual lost book or a treasure
chest that holds many stories to tell the
children, e.g. Does the den exist in a new
world where you have to fight off invading
creatures? Is there a mission to complete?
Or it could be just be a nice cosy place to
sit and read a favourite book. Whatever
you decide, have lots of fun and encourage
lots of sharing stories with each other!
Interior design:
Now it’s time to decorate the inside and get
children involved to make it their own. Some
ideas for internal designs are: laying out a
duvet and cushions for a sleepover, setting
up a little tea party inside or doing some
simple arts and crafts to decorate the walls.
