Michaela’s programme of workshops
focussed around the concept of ‘Many
Hands Make Light Work’, highlighting
the time given by volunteers to create a
busy hub for the local community.
Longer engagement activities allowed
Michaela to carry out her research
enquiry for her final piece of work.
In schools, Michaela raised awareness of
the library and encouraged students to
create their own sculptures based on the
theme of storytelling, growth; growing
together and giving time.
All artworks created were exhibited
within the schools and back at the
library to help create a link between the
two venues and to encourage the young
people involved to visit the library to
view their work in a new context.
Momentum of the residency gathered
as artworks were displayed around
the library to continue to promote and
celebrate the project achievements.

‘The project is great and it
made the library a far more
active place! It also made the
community come together and
it helped me to get back into
doing crafts. It was really fun!
