Engaging with Young People

•
Are you looking to increase the
engagement of young people?
•
Is there a way they can help
you celebrate and challenge the
perceptions of your library with their
peers and your current users?
•
Do your opening times reflect the
busy lives of local young people?
•
How can you be more welcoming and
inviting to their interests and needs
outside of school?
•
How can you develop stronger
partnerships with your local schools
to maximise resources and increase
community benefit?
‘Young people are spending a minimum
of 30 hours in education each week,
along with an average of 4.9 hours
per week on homework (for 15 year
olds). This excludes after-school
clubs meaning that there is little
remaining free time within the week for
independent pursuits.’
Arts Connect, Young People’s Cultural
Journeys, June 2018
Building community spirit at a young
age creates more active citizens later on
in life. Michaela found that in order to
engage young people she needed to work
more directly with local schools.
