Meet the Artist
Ruth Singer
Ruth is a textile and mixed media
artist with a background of working
in museums and over 10 years’
experience of participatory arts practice.
Ruth’s approach to creative projects,
commissions and her own work is
centred around research which then
drives creative activities.
Action Research Plan:
•
To explore how people in Newbold
Verdon work together and for
each other, to create a community
and how that community can be
supported by collaborative creative
practice.
Ruth was commissioned in part due to
her textile practice aligning with the
interests of local knit and stitch groups,
as an accessible art form to increase
engagement with the library. In addition,
her experience of exploring storytelling,
memories and identity through stitched
work with communities aligns with the
target group and the local challenges
of dementia and improving health and
wellbeing.
•
To explore all kinds of volunteering
from the formal, organised, timecounted volunteering to the much
more intangible acts of community
kindness which so many take part in
and is rarely seen.
•
To create a space where people can
take part in slow, thoughtful creative
activities centred around pattern
making which will encourage
conversations about community,
sharing, and connections created
through collaboration.
