COVER ALL AREAS
OF THE EARLY YEARS
FOUNDATION
STAGE CURRICULUM
(EYFS) THROUGH
A FUN, PLAYBASED LEARNING
APPROACH
The under twos focus on the three Prime
Areas of Learning and Development:
Personal, Social & Emotional, Physical
Development and Communication and
Language development.
Once children have a sound basis in the
Prime Areas and from 2 years upwards
we begin to look at the Specific Areas
of Learning and Development: Literacy,
Mathematics, Understanding of the World
and Expressive Arts and Design.
As well as the 7 areas of Learning and
Development, we also consider the way
in which the children learn. There are
three Characteristics of Effective Learning
specified in the EYFS: Playing and exploring
focuses on engagement, Active Learning
focuses on motivation and Creative and
Critical Thinking focuses on thinking.
Children learn best through playing and
finding things out for themselves. Our
responsive planning system allows us the
freedom to plan for children’s immediate
needs and interests on a daily basis. This
ensures that every child is engaged with
their environment and the play-based
experiences on offer.
We strive to strike a good balance
between child-initiated play and adultled experiences. Children are actively
encouraged to ‘have a go’ and try things
for themselves. Through our flexible and
fun approach to the curriculum, we aim
to nurture creative, independent and
enthusiastic little learners.
