USE SMALLER POP-UPS
Another thing I use throughout the winter is the ready-tied
Chod rigs from Kodex. They’re tied so well, using quality parts,
that there’s just no real need to tie your own, you won’t be
gaining anything in particular if you do, so let’s end the stigma
around using ready-tied. In the winter I’ll drop down to the size
7 hook and use the Short length rather than the Long, because
I want it close to the deck. It’s ideal for single bait fishing. You
see a fish and you know you can put this Chod out there and it
will be a perfect presentation every time. These, for meee, are
a must in the winter.
Mark uses the Chod
Steamy Tool to sort
out his bits and pieces.

DROP TO A LIGHTER MAIN LINE
We all try to make our setup a bit simpler and scaled
down in the winter. For meee, I’ll drop down to a
12lb line with the K-Pulse™. It’s tough, strong, thin,
resistant to abrasion and you can’t really fault it. It
casts to the moon.
GET IN TIGHT
I chop a nugget of the Meltz™ PVA foam directly down
the centre, open it up and wrap it around the hookbait.
This gives me the confidence to fish close and tight to
islands or overhanging trees, where the fish are often
held up, because I know even if I clip the edge of the
tree the hook won’t get caught up and so I can get
that little bit closer. It saves you being snagged up
in a tree, pulling it around, maybe snapping your line
because you can’t get the rig out – so the Meltz™ PVA
foam is brilliant and a must.
