Welcome to Winter 2023! It’s never too early for festive frolics at Cherry HQ, and we’re
super happy this edition is not only packed with sparkle and cheer but also spreads the
joy of giving more than just ‘things’. Much as we all love a beautiful, quality, ethical item,
sometimes, non-gift gifts can be the best.
The idea of giving more than an object takes me back to my time volunteering at Crisis at
Christmas for a few years. This homeless charity opens day centres across the Christmas
week, offering a safe space to guests who can enjoy company, hot food, new clothes, a
visit by a health professional and the chance to find a new dwelling that isn't a pavement.
Trust me, after an experience like this, you’ll never look at Christmas the same again. So if
you think you might be able to help this year, we have more details on The Really Useful
Bit, along with other ways in which we can all give back this winter.
Giving back is incredibly important to our interviewee in The Chat, global megastar
Yoshiki. I was lucky enough to meet the music marvel and cultural icon last month in
London. Not only is he fascinating for his talents, he has also set up a foundation to help
disadvantaged people - often displaced by war or natural disasters - donating huge sums
of money to a variety of causes.
Meanwhile, regular readers will know The Cherry Picks doubles at this time of year to
focus on both adults and kids, while The Homemakers recommends beautiful ethical
decorations that you still have time to order before decorating gets fully underway.
We have an inner central heating recipe in The Food from Julius Roberts’ new book The
Farm Table, where we also recommend the very best cheese, olive oil and chocolate. In
The Drinks, we also help you stock up in style, with our review of the best gift sets and
cases that will satiate friends and family, whatever their poison.
The cosiest ethical knits and all-out red make The Fashion headlines, while The Top Five
looks at all the different ways to relaaaaaaaax at this manic time of year.
Happy reading! I’m sending the warmest winter wishes to each and every one of you at
this wonderful yet emotive time of year.
Team Cherry.
