Made for the chapel of the banker, Diego de Haya, this work
was based on the retable of the Presentation in the Temple in
the chapel of the Condestable in Burgos Cathedral, perhaps
requested by the patron. The design included a single scene
of the Adoration of the Magi made up of three groups of figures
in the central section of the retable (fig. 42), and recalled the
famous unfinished work by Leonardo da Vinci on the same
theme painted between 1481 and 1482, now in the Galleria
degli Uffizi in Florence (fig. 43).27 Below the large scene, in the
centre, was a statue of Christ tied to the column, of which there only
