D Morgan Climate Plan Policy and
– Roadmap to decarbonise our business
Government Policy – Climate Change Act 2008 & UK Climate Plan
The Climate Change Act 2008 legislated for Net Zero Emissions by 2050
To achieve this the UK has developed a Climate Plan
The UK announced on 17th March 2021 a blueprint to deliver the… ‘world’s first low-carbon industrial
sector’… including switching energy sources from fossil fuel … to low-carbon alternatives by 2030.
In 2030 the sale of (non-hybrid) new petrol / diesel engines for cars & vans is illegal.
In 2035 only Zero Emission Vehicles (ZEVs) cars & vans can be sold.
The UK announced on 20 April 2021 it will set the world’s most ambitious Climate Change target
using GREEN TECHNOLOGY to reduce UK emissions by 78% by 2035, compared to 1990 levels.
The UK is the world leader in offshore wind, with more installed capacity than any other country
& with the world’s largest offshore windfarm. The UK aims to build a world-class bioeconomy,
using bioscience & renewable biological resources replacing fossil resources, producing clean energy
& transport fuels including Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) from waste & industrial by-products.
The Paris Agreement 2015 – & Glasgow Climate Summit 2021
The Paris Agreement is the first-ever universal, legally binding global Climate Change agreement.
At the Paris conference (COP21) in December 2015, 195 nations adopted The Paris Agreement
to outline in a Climate Plan their post-2020 Climate actions limiting global warming to well below
2°C & pursuing efforts to limit it to 1.5°C avoiding dangerous Climate Change.
Nations accounting for over 70% of world GDP now have Climate Plan targets to decarbonise
their economies achieving Net Zero Emissions typically by 2050.
In November 2021 the UK will host in Glasgow a world Climate Summit COP26, for world leaders.
To support COP26 we are launching our D Morgan Climate Plan Policy
Our Climate Plan Policy follows the Institute of Environmental Management & Assessment
Greenhouse Gas Management Hierarchy (2020) of :
Eliminate
our management decisions will plan pathways to eliminate carbon emissions
Reduce
we will lower our carbon intensity with efficiency & Carbon Technologies & design
Substitute
we will utilise Zero Emission GREEN and/or renewable energy sources, including
GREEN Hydrogen Fuel or low emission bioscience / biological fuels eg HVO
Compensate we will Offset any remaining emissions through Carbon Offsetting methods,
such as planting trees to achieve Carbon Neutrality
Sustainable we will adopt the above Strategy only if it maintains our cashflow & profitability.
If we do it right, we can invest in our business, reducing Carbon Emissions
(eliminating fossil fuels) so our People benefit from INVESTMENT in GREEN
TECHNOLOGY supporting the GREEN ECONOMY & GREEN JOBS developing
an environmentally sustainable & profitable business with Net Zero Emissions
Working in Partnership – Early Contractor Involvement – with our Clients
We practice a holistic Strategy to Environmental Best Practice, our People in Partnership
with our Supply Chain & our Clients to design & plan construction finding sustainable solutions.
We will explore emerging low carbon product specifications, to replace high carbon products.
We will achieve National Highways Net Zero Plan by 2040 in highway construction & maintenance.
We engage in Early Contractor Involvement to make projects cost effective & programme efficient.
