Here on Dartmoor, we welcome responsible and sustainable visitors. Dartmoor
National Park is a special place and it’s up to all of us to respect and protect it, so
it can continue to be enjoyed by us and by future generations.
Sustainability is a global concern, but have you
thought about the little changes you can make
as a visitor that could have a big impact here on
Dartmoor? From Dartmoor’s river valleys to its
commons, we all have a role to play in keeping
it special.
Being a responsible visitor will help to protect
Dartmoor’s special qualities, benefit the places
you visit and reduce your carbon footprint too.
We have some top tips that can help you do all
these things.
Plan to have a great time
Plan ahead so you can make the most of your
visit, minimise your impact on nature and climate
and take home some special memories.

Dartmoor has many excellent public rights
of way, from footpaths to traffic-free cycling
routes. Try to stick to tracks and trails so you
don’t disturb birds nesting on the ground, young
livestock or adders dozing in the sunshine.
