Before embarking on a Dartmoor adventure, remember
there are two essential items to bring along
– poo bags and a lead. We welcome well
behaved dogs on Dartmoor, but it is important
to follow guidelines and keep your dog on
a lead from 1st March – 31st July, during
lambing and ground nesting bird season.
This is a time when canine curiosity needs to
be curbed to help protect the animals that call
Dartmoor their home, and a lead helps avoid
disturbances that could cause them and visiting
dogs harm.
On Dartmoor we live by the ‘leave no trace’ rule and
encourage visitors to bring bags for rubbish and dog poo.
Leaving no trace helps preserve Dartmoor for everyone to enjoy.
When visiting Dartmoor make sure to pop into one of our
Visitor Centres. They are dog friendly havens where you
and your dog are always welcome. Our friendly Information
Advisors are always on hand to offer advice on dog friendly
walks, and our centres are stocked with essential items to help
you prepare for your moorland adventure.
Dartmoor is a place for responsible dog owners to
enjoy, where well-behaved dogs are always welcome.
