History Hunters Family Fun Day
Easter 2024
Saturday 20 July
Self-guided trail – Postbridge and Haytor Visitor Centres
Postbridge Visitor Centre
Join us for some fresh air at Postbridge and Haytor
Visitor Centres with this self-guided egg-venture to
experience some of the first signs of spring.
Drop-in activities throughout the day
Each trail is suitable for all the family whatever your
age and will give you some fun challenges to tackle on
a short walk from the visitor centres.
Look Wild! Family Wildlife Day
Sunday 19 May BOOKING REQUIRED
East Dartmoor National Nature Reserve
This year we are teaming up with Natural England
at East Dartmoor National Nature Reserve for a day
of discovery from dawn to dusk. Throughout the day
there will be short walks to learn more about some
of Dartmoor’s important wildlife, chances to look into
moth traps, go stream dipping and learn about trees.
Water World
25 May - 2 June BOOKING REQUIRED
A free family fun day with our History Hunters
travelling through time to uncover the secrets of
Dartmoor. There will be crafts, activities and things
to make and take home, bringing to life the Brilliant
Bronze Age, the Magnificent Middle Ages and the
Troublesome Tinworkers. Have a go at being an
archaeologist uncovering treasures in our sand trays,
meet a Bronze Age Princess or try panning for tin.
Meldon Wildlife Festival
Tuesday 20 August
Meldon Old Quarry, near Okehampton
Drop-in activities throughout the day
Our annual visit to this wonderful corner of
Dartmoor will help you get closer to nature. We
will be supported by local and national wildlife
organisations, all keen to help you become a wildlife
champion. There will be wildlife games, crafts, and
things to make and take away, alongside hands on
activities like river dipping and minibeast hunts.
Postbridge and Haytor Visitor Centres
Water has shaped the Dartmoor landscape we
love. Join us for a week where we explore just how
important it is for healthy bogs storing atmospheric
carbon, how it supplies many of us with clean drinking
water, and how it nourishes amazing wildlife.
Spooky Dartmoor
October Half-term
National Park Visitor Centres
Discover some of the spooky tales of Dartmoor and
bring them to life with crafts and activities to create
witches and pixies.
