Double the power
for ultra-compact
wheeled loader
J
CB has launched a new
ultra-compact wheeled
loader with double the
power of the current
model.
The JCB 403 Plus mirrors
the size and layout of the
current 25hp (19kW) 403 Smart
Power but draws on a 50hp
(36kW) engine and 60-litre/
min hydraulics to tackle more
demanding work and deliver
greater
productivity.
This
means that despite its small
size, it packs a real punch for
unmatched productivity in tight
farm yards, small buildings and
other conned locations.
Features of the JCB 403 Plus
include:
n Twice as much power as
current model at 50hp (36kW);
n New fuel-saving JCB Autostop
engine idle shut-down;
n New JCB LiveLink telemetry
to monitor machine condition;
n New higher output 60-litre/
min hydraulics and auxiliary
circuit;
n Choice of 12mph (20kph) and
18mph (30kph) transmissions;
n Patented design parallelaction high torque or high lift
loader arms;
n Full-feature cab, semi-glazed
rigid canopy or low-height folddown frame.
JCB Agriculture Managing
Director John Smith said:
“The 403 is by far the smallest
machine in our market-leading
range of agricultural wheeled
loaders but the new Plus
version has a power-to-weight
ratio equivalent to our biggest
machines.
“Its small size and nimble
manoeuvrability make it ideal
for work in and around buildings
and it’s also a very ‘grown
up’ machine with a proven
powertrain incorporating heavy-duty axles and optional 100
per cent locking diffs front and
rear.

nish of our bigger loaders,
completes the package; it’s
a great addition to our range
and one that emphasises the
breadth of choice of agricultural
materials handling machines
offered by JCB as the market
leader in this area.”
Within an overall width of just
1.10 metres on narrow tyres, the
JCB 403 Plus packs in a 1.7-litre
50hp (36kW) engine equipped
with JCB Autostop to shut down
the engine if left idling for a
time-adjustable period to avoid
using up fuel unnecessarily.
In addition, JCB LiveLink
telemetry is installed on the
new Plus model to help keep
the machine secure, encourage
timely service scheduling and
provide remote location, fault
early warning alerts and
operational records.
The JCB 403 Plus model’s
hydrostatic transmission comes
in 12mph (20kph) and 18mph
(30kph) versions, and a 60-litre/
min gear pump provides oil
for the articulated chassis
steering, lift arms and front end
attachments.
An auxiliary circuit to operate
attachments such as a muck
grab also provides constant
ow to drive a hydraulic motor
on equipment such as feed
buckets; ow can be controlled
using a regular lever valve or
the optional electric control on
the loader’s joystick.
Up front, buyers have a choice
of lift arm sizes – the standard
version provides a good all
round combination of breakout
force, lift capacity and a loadover height of 2.6m (8ft 6in),
while the extended option takes
load-over height to 2.8m (9ft
2in) for stacking and loading.
Industry-first features
on telescopic loaders
JCB is launching a new range of telescopic
wheeled loaders that set new performance
standards with an industry-rst 50kph
eight-speed powershift transmission and
the industry’s most powerful engine in a
machine of this type.
Both developments feature in a new
agship model – the 173hp (129kW) TM420S
– in JCB’s ‘Stage V’ telescopic wheeled
loader line-up, along with a new cab that
gives the operator outstanding visibility.
JCB Agriculture Managing Director John
Smith said: “This new range underscores
JCB’s leading position in agricultural
materials handling. As tough, durable and
highly manoeuvrable machines, the ‘TM’
telescopic loaders have always been at the
top of the popularity charts with farmers
and agricultural contractors.
“Now they take a big leap forward with
more power for all models, our unique
eight-speed transmission with 50kph top
speed potential and torque converter lockup in all forward and reverse gears for
the ultimate in power efciency and high
tractive effort.
“Combined with the outstanding visibility
provided by the new cab and fuel-saving
features from the latest JCB DieselMAX
engines, the performance, productivity and
cost-efciency of JCB telescopic loaders is
taken to new heights.”
There are four models in the range with
new variants and performance upgrades
throughout. Lift capacities and lift heights
continue at 3.2 tonnes and 5.20 metres for
the TM320 and TM320S, and 4.1 tonnes and
5.45 metres for the TM420 and new TM420S.
CB’s mid-range agricultural wheeled
loaders have extra power, torque
and renement in a package of
upgrades for the new ‘Stage V’ versions
that meet latest engine emissions rules.
The JCB 411 Agri, 413S Agri and 417 Agri
are now powered by the latest 4.8-litre JCB
DieselMAX four-cylinder engine, which
features the JCB Autostop system to help
operators reduce overall fuel consumption
by automatically shutting down after a
period at idling speed.
The mid-range JCB Agri wheeled loader
enhancements comprise:
n JCB DieselMAX engine meets ‘Stage
V’ emissions with single unit DPF/SCR
solution;
n Fuel-saving JCB Autostop engine idle
shut-down with in-cab timer adjustment;
n Power increase for JCB 417 Agri, more
engine power and torque for JCB 413S Agri;
n Rubber cushion-damped steering adds
renement to the driving experience;
n Rear-view camera with dedicated
display now standard for driving ease and
added safety.
JCB Agriculture Managing Director John
Smith said: “As part of our ongoing loader
development programme, these highly
productive machines get a number of
features that enhance their performance
or improve the operator’s comfort and
ease of operation.
“They complement the already high
standard specication, which in the quiet
and spacious Command Plus cab includes
a choice of seating and control formats,
and the ability to get to work quickly by
carrying out routine daily uid and other
service checks from the seat.
“The latest upgrades add to the appeal of
these machines for operators and owners,
further strengthening JCB’s leading
position in the agricultural materials
handling market.”
The JCB 411 Agri and 417 Agri are designed
and equipped primarily for hard surface
applications, driving through a four-speed
JCB Powershift transmission to operate
in bulk stores and carrying out routine
handling and loading tasks on farms, with
the high central driving position affording
great all-round visibility.
Weighing 8.7 tonnes, the 411 Agri has
High Torque lift arms giving 3.36 metres
of load-over clearance with the quickhitch tted and a full-turn tipping load of a
little more than ve tonnes with a general
purpose 1.2-1.6cu m bucket.
Three loader arm choices are available
with the JCB 417 Agri, giving up to 4.2 metre
clearance for bale stacking or loading an
intake hopper, and a full turn tipping load
of around 3.9 tonnes in that conguration,
with up to 5.8 tonnes capacity available
with a quick-hitch on the standard arms,
which will clear 3.3 metres.
The ‘S’ designation of the JCB 413S Agri
indicates that this loader is equipped
for more demanding applications; it
has greater engine power, a six-speed
Powershift transmission and optional
limited slip differentials front and rear for
maximum traction.
The combination enables the 413S to
generate more muscular levels of pushing
power and tractive performance for
applications such as silage clamp work
and loading manure spreaders in the eld,
while a near-50kph potential top speed
enables it to keep pace with tractors and
other agricultural team vehicles on the
road.
Weighing typically 8.95 tonnes, it clears
3.61 metres with the optional High Lift
loader arms that cater for operators
needing to load tall manure spreaders
and diet feeders, while the standard arms
provide increased torque for improved
lifting ability, giving the 413S Agri tipping
loads from 4.6 to 5.6 tonnes depending
upon the front end conguration.
