“Ever since the news came through
that the Coronation would be held on
the Saturday of Badminton, we have
been working out how best to deliver

DEDICATED: The late Audrey Adams was a very active
and dedicated member of the Dressage Ireland Northern
Region committee for many years. (FW43-509NN)
DRESSAGE Ireland is deeply saddened at the passing of
Audrey Adams and express their deepest condolences to
her daughter, Irish international rider Lucy Adams, and
to the family and friends of Audrey. A truly wonderful
woman, Audrey was a very active and dedicated member
of the Dressage Ireland Northern Region committee for
many years. She celebrated her 90th birthday in May this
year with close family and friends. Members of Dressage
Ireland will remember Audrey for the many, many shows
she worked at as a member of the scoring team.
Audrey Adams was born in May 1932 in Edinburgh. She
grew up spending time at the family farm in the Borders,
where she took any opportunity to ride, including the
farm work horses. Audrey moved to Northern Ireland
when she married Philip in 1954, where they raised their
family of four.
She encouraged all her children to ride and become
members of the East Down Pony Club. Audrey took over
the position of secretary to Alma McMillen and Duffy
Cunningham before becoming District Commissioner,
which earned her the prestigious Cubitt Award. She then
became a member of the Dressage Ireland Northern
Region committee, hosting meetings in her house,
organising tests sheets and scoring at shows and putting
up visiting judges from UK and the continent. She was
regularly seen doing long stints of scoring at the National
Championships at Cavan Equestrian Centre. Audrey was
an avid baker and jam maker, which were sold to raise
funds for the Northern Region. She also spent time in
her garden growing sweet peas and supplying the livery
yard with a wide variety of garden produce. Audrey
Adams will be sadly missed.
“I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Audrey
Adams,” said Dressage Ireland Chairperson Marguerite
Kavanagh. “I would like to convey my deepest sympathy
to Lucy and to the family and friends of Audrey. Audrey
was always very pleasant and in good form every time
I met her, she was an outstanding member of Dressage
Ireland providing dedicated and exemplary service as
a member of the Northern Region committee. Like so
many other members who met her at shows, I recall
she was always doing something to help in the running
of a dressage event, particularly in providing the very
important scoring service. We will miss her greatly, may
she Rest in Peace.”
There was a private cremation, followed by a service of
Thanksgiving at Saintfield Parish Church on Wednesday,
October 26.
HALLOWE’EN can be an exciting
time of year as we carve our
pumpkins, decorate our homes,
dress up and enjoy parties with
friends and family. However,
there is one side of Hallowe’en
celebrations that we as horse
owners begin to dread - fireworks.
The loud bangs and bright lights
from fireworks can spook even
the calmest of horses, making
it an extremely stressful time
for horse owners. Fortunately,
there are a number of tips horse
owners can follow to minimise
the stress caused by fireworks.
PLAN AHEAD
Our number one tip is to plan
ahead, find out if there are any
displays organised in your area
and ask neighbours if they are
planning on letting fireworks off
this year. Knowing what to expect
can help you plan ahead.
Keep Your Usual Routine
Try to stick to your horse’s
normal routine, as much as you
can - if your horse is normally
stabled, keep him stabled. If your
horse is normally in the field,
keep him in the field provided it
is safe, secure and not close to
any fireworks displays.
DO A SAFETY CHECK
Be sure to check your horse’s
field or stable for loose fixtures,
objects or anything they could
potentially injure themselves on.
CALMERS
If you anticipate that your horse
will be affected by the fireworks,
calmers can be used to help
support your horse during
stressful situations. Our bestselling calmers include:
TRM Good As Gold Paste
The TRM Good As Gold Paste
has key nutrients, along with high
levels of magnesium to ensure
this paste has the desired
calming effect. It’s rated five
stars by our customers with one
reviewer stating: “I have tried
many calmers, but this is the
only one that works! No need
for feeding calmers every day
(also tried) just one paste in the
morning and keeps my horse
relaxed whilst at competitions.”
TRM Good As Gold Paste comes
in a pack of three and is currently
retailing at £12.95. For this
product, feeding is advised
the day before its effects are
required.
NAF Five-Star Instant Magic
Shots
The NAF Five-Star Instant
Magic Shots use bio-available
magnesium combined with a
fast-acting herbal base for an
effective instant calming effect.
This product is recommended for
horses who only require the use
of a calmer on an immediate,
short-term basis for specific
potentially stressful situations,
such as competition, clipping,
travelling or a visit from the
farrier or dentist. NAF Five-Star
Instant Magic Shots currently
retail at £15.75 for a pack of
three.
Equine America So Kalm Paste
The Equine America So Kalm
Paste contains a premium grade
Magnesium with L-Tryptophan, an
essential amino acid associated
with the production of serotonin,
to calm and focus the horse. It
is recommended to administer
10ml one to two hours prior
to competition or event or any
situation where the horse may
become difficult to handle.
Equine America So Kalm Paste
currently retails at £12.95 for a
