How will Covid-19 impact the local workforce and what does this mean for your future?
Over the coming months, more information will be
available about just how our county's economy and
businesses have been affected by Covid-19. Many
businesses are starting to re-open their doors whilst most
retail outlets remain closed until further notice. So far we

Over £35 million worth of government backed grants has
been given to local businesses.
New digital services such as 'Northampton Local' have
been set up to provide info and support for restaurants
and pubs providing take-away services in the area.
17,900 jobs within the hospitality industry are at risk and
most have been placed om furlough where they are
recieving 80% of their wage paid by the government. This
will soon change to 60%.
In the future, we could see the following trends and
changes in the workplace which will change the face
of the working world as we know it. Although this has
been a scary time, some of these changes will help our
mental health as well as create a more inclusive and
fair working society:
Better workplace equality for women as employers
become more flexible
More companies choosing to have their employees
work remotely rather than in the office
Employees may be given more autonomy (freedom) to
manage their own schedules
Workplace leaders may become more empathetic and
More attention to better work/life balance
More resilient employees
Employees with post-traumatic growth or posttraumatic stress
Less travel for business tasks
Flexible working hours for more employees
Better technology available to facilitate home-working
