What are the mission objectives of
KFAED?
In the years ahead, the Fund will be more involved in
helping its partner countries to achieve the Sustainable
Development Goals (SDGs) agreed by the UN
General Assembly in September, 2015. These build
on the MDGs, but they ae broader, and more inclusive
goals than the MDGs, with a top priority goal of
eradicating poverty by 2030.
Kuwait Fund’s objectives are to help people in
developing countries to help themselves, and be able
to be free from poverty and empower them with the
capacity for employment and earning decent living
conditions.

Can you explain to our readers just
how KFAED operates to make your
objectives a reality?

To make its objectives a reality, Kuwait Fund
provides strong support to its developing country
partners and helps them to achieve their development
goals and targets. In this respect, the Fund provides
concessional loans to finance development projects of
high priority to recipient countries. An important
aspect of the Fund’s cooperation with its country
partners is the consultation with them and the advice
provided throughout the project cycle, including
project feasibility studies, project implementation, and
project operation and management.

Who and what type of entity is
eligible for the Fund’s much needed
assistance?
When the Fund was established in 1961, its mandate
was confined to assisting other Arab countries. In
mid-1974, the mandate was expanded to include all
developing countries. Governments and public
entities in developing countries are eligible to receive
assistance from the Fund in the form of concessional
loans to finance priority development projects, and
receive technical assistance and grants to finance such
activities as the preparation of feasibility studies,
consulting services for specific tasks, and expert
services as required, in addition to financing training
programs for capacity building.
In what areas of assistance does the
Fund target?
The Fund targets projects in various economic and
social sectors in accordance with the priorities
assigned by the recipient countries. The Fund’s
operations cover financing projects in such sectors as
agriculture, transport, energy, water and sanitation,
health, education, and others.

Can you tell us some of the diverse
ways in which KFAED provides this
assistance?
The Fund assists developing countries by providing
them with concessional loans to finance priority
development projects in various economic and social
sectors and help them to achieve sustainable
development. In addition to its main activity of
project financing, the Fund provides technical
assistance to finance various consulting services,
Over the past 15 years, most of the Fund’s operations
were geared towards assisting countries in achieving
the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), with
focus on poverty reduction, agriculture and rural
