THE ENVIRONMENTAL
COMMISSIONER OF ONTARIO
(Toronto, Ontario, Canada)
In Ontario, Canada, the Environmental
Commissioner of Ontario (ECO) is tasked by the
Ontario Legislature with, amongst other things,
reporting on progress in the province
reducing greenhouse gas emissions and
improving energy conservation and efficiency.
In our 2016 Annual GHG Progress Report, Facing

why Ontario must dramatically reduce its GHG
emissions. In this report, the ECO also reported
on what Ontario’s emissions are now, and what
the government is doing to reduce them.

issues, including: the science of climate

shrinking. Heat waves are posing health risks for
vulnerable populations. Cities like Toronto,
