DINNERS & SUPPERS
SOF SYDNEY
DINNER
An OF dinner was arranged in Sydney,
NSW, Australia by Colin Lipman (R53-61)
to create the opportunity for OFs to meet
John (S49-56) and Hilary Ling from Bergh
Apton, near Norwich.
Those present were:
Colin and Lexie Lipman, Hugh (S43-48)
and Julia Richardson, David (G48-56)
and Rosie Summers, and Mike (R54-62)
and Bunny Allport.
The gathering collected at the Lord Nelson
for drinks, then moved to a small, but
within staggering distance, ‘Fish at the
Rocks’ restaurant. The evening was enjoyed
by all, with many old and new stories being
told. David Summers was celebrating his
81st birthday, and he had known John at
Brandeston so many moons ago that it
does not bear calculation.
Sydney, through the kind work of Colin
Lipman, always puts on a good show. The
short lead-up time was unavoidable since
John and Hilary are on a quasi-Phineas
Fogg journey around the world, albeit not
in 80 days, but with a time frame that did
not, perhaps, allow full exploitation of SOF
hospitality in Oz.
The lack of photos basically reflects the
average age of the participants, since it
seems only the young, who apparently don’t
trust their memories and have to record
everything for posterity, are addicted to this
modern trait.
A fine time was had by all, and, apart
from David Summers, the Garrett birthday
boy, it was an exclusive Stradbroke and
Rendlesham affair, untainted by any
Kerrison stay-at-home influence? I wonder

OXFORD OFS – MINI
SUPPER IN OXFORD
A pilot OF Lunch was held at the Old
Bank Restaurant in ‘The High’ on 10
October 2019. It is believed this was the
first more formal OF ‘Supper’ in the City
whereas ‘The Other Place’ has had several
functions not least due to our connection
with Pembroke College. Due to attendees
having afternoon appointments there was
not time to visit The Bear Inn to see the
cut-off Fram tie in one of the many display
cases of schools and clubs but that will be
on the agenda next time.
A convivial lunch was held as some had not
met since leaving Fram. The three senior
octogenarians were born within 35 days
of each other in 1935 and later it was
discovered the fourth had joined the clan
in June but kept it very secret – the ‘young
one’ with a beard. A programme was
produced of the “Sub’s Concert” in 1953
showing Bridges as Lady Macbeth and next
name was Cheng as a Witch in the turn
labelled ‘Macbeth Revised.’
Those present were: Bernard Bridges
(S45-54) and Elsie, Hung Cheng (G5054) and Elizabeth, James RuddockBroyd (G46-52) and Christine and Brian
Smith (S53-56) and Valerie.
Apologies were received from Clive Smith
(S54-58) who had recently undergone an
operation and Robert Ellerby (G65-72).
If others in Oxfordshire or who have
connections with the area would like to
attend a future event please get in touch
with JGRB via his contact details in the
Directory.

SOF SUFFOLK
SUPPER OCTOBER
2019
On Saturday 19th October 2019, 59 Old
Framlinghamians attended the annual
Suffolk Supper held at Framlingham
College. Thirty-five of those attending were
OFs, 3 were established Hon OFs and 5
were newly elected Hon OFs. The College
staff had provided a most enjoyable, well
presented buffet supper, with a main course
choice of Moroccan spiced fish with ginger
on a bed of stir fry noodles and vegetables;
chicken fricassee with new potatoes; wild
mushroom stroganoff or beef madras
with naan and poppadoms. Desert was
equally as delicious with a choice of bitter
chocolate and raspberry mousse; vanilla
panna cotta with strawberry compote and
fresh mint; or, summer berry pavlova, with
white chocolate sauce.
After the supper the President, Simon
Dougherty, thanked the Framlingham
College catering team for an excellent
meal. He briefly introduced 5 new
Hon OFs: Keely Ball, Clare Collins,
Constantinos Constanti (Dino), Mark
Lavery and Peter Hein, each of whom were
presented with an OF silk scarf or OF tie
as appropriate. He also warmly welcomed
