CHARITY
CHARITY
The Charity committee had their most
successful year to date and this reflected
the dedication and enthusiasm from Philip
Lewellen and the others as they set out to
raise funds and make a difference in the
lives of others for the better.
After Sam Tomlinson’s moving and personal
story in chapel, the committee helped raise
some £1505 for the first nominated charity
– Starlight, a charity which affords those
students with difficult and pressing health
needs the chance to do something amazing
in their life. In Sam’s case he was able to
use the funds raised to ‘play it forward’
as is so often the case with charitable
giving. Pip and Ruby Morgan also gave
a deeply personal talk on a charity close
to their hearts – namely Tom’s Trust. It
was therefore no surprise that the College
rallied behind their cause and raised some
£2126. As for the Summer Term, there was
so much support for two charities, namely
Alzheimer’s Society as supported by Emma
Gross, and Leukaemia Research
as championed by Isaac Powell, that the
committee decided to share the funds raised
between both charities. Thankfully, the many
and varied fundraising activities over the
year, such as Candy Cane sales, Valentine
Heart sales, Triathlon and the Easter Egg
hunt, all meant we could offer £927 to
each of those charities too.
Along with all the dedication from the
committee, special mention also needs
to be made to Moreau House, the DT
department, Mr Hoole’s Fudge sales and
the Year 9 DofE charity drive, as they also
contributed greatly to the charitable giving
by the College.

The Charity committee remain a vital part
of College life and reflect a school deeply
committed to serving others and also the
chance to have a jolly good time in the
process, as reflected in the final charity
dinner in Aldeburgh.
