BUSINESS & ECONOMICS
The dynamic nature of Business and
Economics has led to innovative lessons
and exciting extra-curricular activities which
have really brought the subjects to life this
year. The introduction of the Business and
Economics Society speaker programme
has been an excellent addition to our
curriculum, and we are ever-appreciative
to all the parents who have given up so
much time to help. A wide range of talks
and lectures have taken place, ranging from
B2B Marketing, Working in the City, Getting
Yourself Ahead in Business and Dealing
with Business Change. Students have been
enthralled by these talks and an interesting
programme is already being put together for
next year.
This term has also seen Sixth Form
participating in the Tycoon enterprise
competition. Teams received large loans
from the Peter Jones Foundation and
produced products with the capital gained
from these loans. ‘Zwap’ designed an
innovative collectable pencil case, which
sold well in school and in local shops. Year
10 pupils had an opportunity to flex their
entrepreneurial muscle in the Dragon’s Den
Mike Milne
carousel and hopefully they will be inspired
to take part in the Tycoon competition in the
future.
Brexit has been the source of much debate in
class this year and this has helped with lesson
planning! Year 11 had the opportunity to get
a good taste of the economic environment in
our new Economics Society and this helped
them to better understand the relationships
which shape the world we live in and the
complexities that the future holds.

CLASSICS
Just as there were great men before
Agamemnon, so there was scholarship
before the exam system, but good exam
results are still gratifying, and it was
pleasing that the first cohort to sit the new
GCSE did so well. Framlingham still offers
a haven for Martial’s vitam beatiorem,
though the current Year 10 will study
some more dramatic verse on the theme
of passions and poisons, while checking
on Hannibal’s elephants getting over the
Alps. Cui bono? Harold Macmillan once
commented that a Classical education
did not necessarily make a good cabinet
minister, but that the Classicist was
more likely to recognize when nonsense
was being talked: England has need of
Classicists!
