OUTWARD BOUND
OUTWARD BOUND
AT FRAMLINGHAM COLLEGE
WHEN YOU GO BY THE CCF
STORES YOU WILL SEE A NEW SIGN
DECLARING IT TO BE THE HOME OF
CCF, RANGERS AND DofE UNDER THE
UMBRELLA OF OUTWARD BOUND.
The CCF and Framlingham Rangers are
youth organisations that compete side by
side for participants and they both offer the
same opportunities of leadership, teamwork
and camaraderie. The main difference
between them is that there is no marching,
rifles or military uniform in Fram Rangers.
These three factors have been a bit of
sticking point for some in modern times and
it is therefore an attractive alternative.
FRAM RANGERS
Fram Rangers, the brain child of Lt. Colonel
M Myers-Allen, is ably managed by Mr
John Harrod and Mr James Buxton. The
very first meeting of Framlingham Rangers
got off to a wonderful start on 10th
September 2018. 25 eager Year 10s met
in the afternoon sunshine by the newly
built indoor bouldering wall looking smart
in their pristine Fram Rangers fleeces and
adventure training kit. They were greeted
and inducted by their ‘Instructors’, a team
of 9 Sixth Form students who had passed
their JNCO Cadre Course in the CCF and
who volunteered
to transfer to Fram
Rangers led by Sgt
Hunny Clark. They
would be introduced
to a range of fun,
yet challenging
activities throughout
the coming year. This
first session provided
a mere taster of
what’s to come for
our Rangers this year,
while one group got
to grips, quite literally,
with the bouldering
wall, others learned

a survival situation
while some got to
try their hand at
some off-road cycling. This new endeavour
for the College is student-led and staff
supervised, and looks set to contain
an exciting and educational array of
opportunities for the Rangers this year.
By the Spring Term Rangers were now busy
with bouldering, geo-caching, biking,
archery and survival skills. Their archery
range is complete and plans are afoot to
extend the wall higher and build a rifle
range. The CCF has donated money to
pay for new equipment including go-cart
kits and lazer rifles, and 40 current Year 9
have elected to join in September and the
existing 12 Year 10s are being trained to be
Ranger Instructors. The CCF will continue
to support it until it can stand firmly on its
own two feet.
The CCF is still enjoyed by 120 participants
and continues to thrive with an Army
and an RAF section. Field Weekends are
always the highlight of training and the
cadets were treated to some wonderful
opportunities this year.
