OUTWARD BOUND
SHOOTING AT
THE COLLEGE
Rifle shooting at the College has
consistently enjoyed considerable
success over many decades.
Sunday 14th October 2018 saw
the College’s annual shoot against
the OFRC competing for the Podd
Trophy. Many of the OFRC were
shooting in an international event,
but they still managed to muster
together a formidable team. The
College has struggled to muster a
team at all over the last year or so,
but managed to find 7 good shots
(mostly juniors) who also put up
a good fight – and who only went
down by the narrowest of margins
- 1,458 to 1,413. Top Shot for the
OFRC was Jon Ford with a score of
193 and Top Shot for the College
was Theo McDowell with 189.
Everybody wants to see College
shooting return to its glory days and
any pupil who has a passion for
shooting and who is not necessarily
in a major team is encouraged to
come forward and help revitalise this
sport so that events, like this, can
continue years into the future.

THE DUKE OF EDINBURGH’S AWARD
THE STATISTICAL REPORT ON THE NUMBER OF DOFE AWARDS
ACHIEVED BY THE 59 LICENSED ORGANISATIONS IN SUFFOLK HAS BEEN
PUBLISHED AND IT MAKES GOOD READING.
The marvellous news is that from 1st April 2018 to 31st March 2019, Framlingham
College achieved 144 awards and came out on top. However, it so important to
point out that it is not so much about it being a competition, but a celebration of
what the county can collectively achieve. 1216 youngsters have been successful this
year including 13 from Ormiston Endeavour Academy, a school that Framlingham
College proudly supports. Throughout the country there are 1,114 active centres all
working to ensure that DofE is accessible to as many young people as possible.
287,937 were undertaking a DofE programme in 2018/19 and the numbers
have been steadily rising. The number of volunteering hours put in is estimated
to be 557,817 which is a huge, positive impact on the local communities. Upon
hearing the news, the Headmaster, Paul Taylor, declared, ‘The DofE programme
is hugely valued here and indeed creates the framework for much of our extensive
co-curricular programme. Much is spoken these days about the need for boys and
girls to develop resilience and confidence, and the DofE programme has been doing
that for years. We are very proud of the inclusive culture here that encourages pupils
to engage with the scheme and stretch and challenge themselves in ways that help
them develop those personal qualities that will serve them so well in adult life’.
Congratulations to George Wright, Evie Hall, India Ball, Joss Easey, Alex Gordon,
Hunny Clark, Harry Rowland, Archie Goodhead, Martha Lawrence, Beatrice Heaton
(OF), Friederike Fischer (OF), Louise Crabtree (OF), William Donsworth (OF), Coral
Langridge (OF), Conal Judge, (OF), Jack Stewart (OF) and William Simpson (OF) for
achieving Gold.
