The girls won the County Cup with
comfortable wins against Ipswich High
School, RHS and Ipswich to progress to
the East Finals. These were to be a rather
nervy affair despite having started with a
12-0 win against The Perse; the girls took
on the hot favourites St Lawrence College
and produced a super display of calm
deep defence to snatch a 1-0 win thanks
to a Tabby Billingham penalty corner in
the first half. The girls slipped up against
Norwich School going down 2-1 meaning that they had to beat Queenswood in
the final game to secure a National Finals
place. A nervy start saw the opponents
take the lead before Framlingham began
to play some fine hockey and win the
game 5-1.
The U18s could not quite manage to
repeat last year’s National Final heroics
but, agonisingly, they were only one goal
away from the semi-finals. That goal was
an overtime penalty corner from Millfield
in the third pool game; a 1-0 lead going
into the final second was not enough as
the opponents scored that corner to level
the game and effectively end our chances
of a semi-final. The following morning,
we won comfortably in our final game but
missed out on the semi by one point. A
fine season nonetheless from the girls.

1st XI
The 1st XI enjoyed another stunning season,
one that they can look back on with real
pride. The domestic season saw another
flawless display, winning every game they
played. The highlights would be winning
the Birley’s Festival for the fourth straight
season, overcoming Queenswood in the
final. Other highlights included a 5-1
defeat of Haileybury, an up and coming
powerhouse in the East circuit and a 3-0
win at The Leys was also a real highlight
despite being a tough fixture in torrential
rain. The National Cup saw a troublefree build up in the early rounds with
comfortable wins against Norwich School,
King’s Ely. Round 4 saw a thrilling
encounter with a strong Bedford School
who started as the better team and - but
for Beth Farrow - could easily have been in
the lead at half-time. The second half saw
Lottie Summers and Rose Winter break with
ferocious pace and Tabby Billingham and
Martha Lawrence exerted more and more
control to secure a well-earned 3-0 win.
The Quarter-Final was an epic encounter
with Repton School and, sadly, a brilliant
display from the team was not quite enough
in a 2-1 loss. I must say an enormous
thank you to Amy De Selincourt, Martha
Lawrence, India Ball, Tabby Billingham,
Rose Winter, Lottie Summers, Liberty Salsby
and Millie Salter, for all they have done for
Hockey at the College; they will be much
missed.
