BOYS’ HOCKEY
1st XI
It was a tale of two halves for the boys 1st
XI after an injury-ravaged second half of
the season saw a number of Year 9 and
10 boys making their debuts. Captain
Charlie Slaven broke his collarbone
during the mid-season break - the
talismanic central defender was a big
loss for the squad. Jammie Lewis took up
the reigns superbly and he, along with
Cameron Cooke, Ben Chapman and
the outstanding Ollie Juszt in goal, had
seasons to be very proud of. The boys
had a number of excellent results along
the way; none more so than their 1-0 win
away to a very strong Felsted side and
their 1-1 draw with Bishop’s Stortford. A
number of wins were recorded along

the way notably against The Leys and
Gresham’s. Their cup campaign came to
end against Forest in a superb game of
hockey that just wasn’t to go the way of
the home side despite clear chances. The
season ended on a real positive with a
young side travelling to the Bath Festival
to record four straight wins - the first time
in many years a Framlingham team has
enjoyed such a successful trip to the West
Country.

Entering both the Under 16 and the Tier 4
national competitions meant that the 2nd
XI had two distinct sides this season; a Sixth
Form side for the cup and a mixed team
that included Year 11s for the Saturday
fixtures. The format worked well as 27 boys
represented the 2nd team during the term
and they all had the experience of playing
in some competitive matches of a decent
standard.
For the players returning next season,
this year’s exposure to some challenging
opponents should stand them in very good
stead as they aim for places in the 1st XI.
Hopefully some of this year’s side will earn
that promotion.
