The D&T department has been busier
than ever this year with students making
and designing creations of all shapes and
descriptions and at all hours. Activities
and Lunch Clubs have been very busy,
with many pupils finding a nice warm
place to escape the chill of the meadow
at lunchtimes! It is always good to report
on successes and this year we had
Heather Alabaster working incredibly hard
throughout the Autumn Term to gain a DT
Scholarship to the Senior School. A worthy
winner indeed.
Many others put many hours in to boost
their DT progression as well, with James
Laurie and Toby Sheppard being particularly
diligent, thus earning themselves (as well
as Heather) a highly coveted Arts’ Tie, with
James also being awarded the AJ Martin
Prize for Care and Perseverance in Hand
Crafted Work. James and Heather were
the DT Representatives for the year – and
a fine job they did. Other high points saw
Year 7 go on the annual DT pilgrimage
to the Design Museum in London, with
two excellent special exhibitions on view –
David Adjaye’s architecture (amazing) and
Home Futures (thought provoking) – as
well as the fabulous permanent collection –
‘Designer, Maker, User’. As I write this, I am
watching the last of the myriad of artefacts
that have been made being collected
and taken home – at last I can see the
workshop again!
