MUSIC EXAMS
Many more than usual ABRSM and Rock
School exams took place this year and the
exam days were full up and busy with all
doing their very best in grades ranging from
Prep tests to Grade 5 this year. Everybody
passed but particularly well done to those
who achieved either Merits or Distinctions.
SUMMER CONCERT
This year’s Summer Concert started with
Funky Monkeys playing a medley of Queen
songs called ‘Queen FM’ and then ‘Mission
Impossible’. This group has even more
new members in it, giving hope to the
future. Junior Vocals sang with their usual
energy with ‘Sweet Gingerbread Man’, ‘The
Flood’, ‘Going up a Yonder’ and ‘Happy’.
All of these were sung in two or three parts.
Funky Monkeys
This year we were joined by the Cambiata
Choir, which comprises boys from Years
7,8 & 9 and they sang ‘Gospel Train’ and
‘My Love is Like a Red, Red Rose’ with great
feeling, and from memory too. Strings ‘n
Things built on their efforts from earlier
in the year and sounded really good with
‘Merlin’ and ‘Forget You’. Who will forget
Charlie Hall’s solo vocal performance of
‘Jealous’ accompanying himself on the
keyboard followed by a standing ovation.
Ukuleles played Vivaldi’s ‘Autumn’ and
‘Spring’ from the Four Seasons and Girls’
Vocals delivered ‘Dodi-li’, ‘Havana’ and
‘Like a Singing Bird’ with great expression.
Next the scholars’ ensemble played
‘Conversation Galant et Amusante’ which,
for me, was a very great pleasure and
Junior Vocals
delivered with precision and excellent
communication. Culminating with much
energy was the Orchestra who played
the ‘Phantom’ medley and themes from
‘Carmen’.
All in all a most fruitful musical year and
ready for more of the same for 2019-20.
