GIRLS’ CRICKET
Solid foundations which have been laid
over the course of the last couple of years
in girls’ cricket were once again built on
this season. The number of girls playing
cricket outside school has increased
significantly, as has county representation
and the general enthusiasm for the sport
evident for all to see.
The 1st girls’ team, containing similar
numbers of Year 7 and 8 girls (encouraging
for next season), were victorious in all their
Wednesday afternoon fixtures. They missed
out in the County Cup, which highlighted
the need to find opposition that stretched
them more regularly in order to compete at
this level. The 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th team
Happy U11 Girls
girls also experienced success regularly and
showed real team spirit and support for one
another. The 2nd team remained unbeaten
and posted some impressive scores along
the way. All the senior girls enjoyed the
couple of opportunities to play against the
Senior School, a connection we hope to
develop in future years.
The U11s had a wonderful season,
culminating in being crowned IAPS East
Champions. They lost in the final of the
County Cup by two runs, with lessons learnt
along the way. Many of this team represent
Suffolk regularly and will, undoubtedly,
prove to be key players next year. The U11
B,C and D girls should not go unmentioned
- they have plenty of talent, won countless
games and could always be seen on the
pitch with broad smiles on their faces.

Lower down the school the U9 girls missed
a few matches due to rain at the start
of the season but went from strength to
strength. Performances against South Lee
and Culford demonstrated our improved
bowling. Head of Cricket Development
Johann Myburgh was often seen developing
this group on a Monday morning - a big
thank you for this encouragement.
With a continued sense of excitement and
real potential, girls’ cricket at the Prep
School remains strong and full of growing
talent. The Senior School will have some
talented Year 9 players to join their everimpressive girls’ teams.
