SOF NORFOLK
SUPPER 2019
The Society of Old Framlinghamians
Norfolk Supper was held at Glen Lodge
Bawburgh Golf Club, Norwich on Thursday
7th November and was organised by Colin
Wigg.
There was an excellent response, with 41
diners sitting down to a quality Carvery
of Topside of Beef, Loin of Pork and Roast
Turkey and a most convivial evening was
enjoyed by all.
President Simon Dougherty thanked Colin
and his wife Liz for organising the event
and remarked on the excellent turnout of
OFs, together with their guests.
Mention was made of the late Rob McLean
who sadly died earlier this year and who
had been an outstanding supporter of
Norfolk Suppers over very many years.
Our President welcomed all those present
and proposed a toast to the Society.
Richard Sayer spoke briefly, advising us
that the previous day he attended the
75th anniversary of the Amiens raid and
the death of Group Captain Percy Pickard
(G26-32) DSO & 2 bars, DFC and Czech
War Cross. Richard commented on Group
Captain Pickard’s extraordinary bravery,
commitment and sacrifice.
Two of the OFs present at the Norfolk
supper, Michael Powlesland and Alf Wolton
both remember Pickard’s visits to the
College in 1942 and 1943.
Norfolk Supper - Tom Caston and Simon Dougherty
Our President introduced Tom Caston
Deputy Head (Pastoral) who outlined
his role at the College and confirmed
that Framlingham is in extremely good
hands under the guidance of Louise
North, the new Principal of the College and
Head of the Senior School.
John Ling (S49-56) then gave a most
fascinating summary on his recent threemonth trip around the world with his wife
Hilary and the fellow OFs he met along the
way.
John spoke especially of the hospitality of
the Australian Old Framlinghamians, many
of whom he hadn’t seen since leaving the
College in 1956.
Those in attendance were:
Simon Dougherty (G60-67), Maggie
Dougherty, Tom Caston - College
