PEOPLE HERE
AND THERE
DOUBLE FIRST FOR THE
CLARKE-GIFFORDS!
Georgie Clarke Gifford (V01-15) left
College in 2015 to take up a place
at the University of Brighton to study
Fashion Communication with Business
Studies. The 4-year degree, which
included an internship in Denmark,
led to First Class honours for Georgie,
who graduated in June. She spent the
summer at The Kitchen in Thorpeness,
putting her creative skills into a culinary
setting.
Brother Elliot (S98-12) who left
in 2012 enjoyed a two year gap
experience in Australia, travelling and
working on farms, before returning to
Portsmouth University to do two years
of an engineering degree. Elliot had a
change of heart though, and switched
to study Property Development, like
his sister graduating with a First this
summer, a delight for both parents! He
is a keen hiker, spotted recently in the
Lake District with Simon Skitch, fishes
and shoots.
OF LAUNCHES CONTEMPORARY PRINT FAIR
Jack Bullen (G03-08) writes “Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair was set up
in November 2016 by my wife Lizzie Glendinning and myself in the Royal
Arsenal. As a printmaker myself I was keen to promote a medium that is very
often overlooked and mis-understood. At the time no other fair in the UK
dedicated much thought to the contemporary printmaking scene and we wanted
to challenge this by setting up an annual fair that could showcase how rich,
dynamic and innovative the printmaking scene was.
The first fair had just under 100 exhibitors taking part having been individually
approached and invited by Lizzie and myself. We had a multitude of excited
artists getting in touch following the fair and we launched our first international
open call last year showcasing over 200 artists in total.
Having relocated to premises three times the size of last year’s fair we were able
to open up booths to partnering galleries such as the Royal Academy and Royal
Society of Painter Printmakers. The total number of exhibitors this year passes
350”.
