GERRY GRADY WROTE:
It has been my privilege to have been driving for the
staff, visitors and students of Framlingham College for
almost 30 years. I moved to Cransford Hall in 1983,
where I managed a residential home for ladies and
gentlemen with dementia. I always hoped to have my
own business, so I set up Framlingham Taxi Service in
1989. I split my time between the UK and France. My
time in France is spent with with my sister, Stephanie
filming for “Escape to the Chateau” with Channel 4. We
are currently recording the winter series.
This edition and particularly the full version on the website
contains a bumper crop of articles from over 250 emails
received. Genuinely many thanks for giving me such a
huge editing task to do again!
During the last year there have been OF gatherings
in Hong Kong, Penang, Cairns and Sydney which you
can read more about below. A huge thank you to the
organisers who came forward to make these a great
success and to everyone who was able to attend.
I hope others will come forward to organise reunions
during 2020 and as always I will help with mailing list and
publicity but can’t promise to be able to attend them all!
Please keep your messages and news flooding in,
especially with your photos. Happy reading!
PETER HEIN WROTE:
Phil Bower and his boat
I started my time at Framlingham College in 1996 as
cleaner when Gwen Randall was Head. I was then
transferred to the grounds department as a gardener and
general dogsbody where my entertaining style proved
a valuable addition. I then became minibus driver and
Head’s chauffeur and it didn’t stop there. I then became
the College’s security guard residing in the Gatehouse and
then the Contingent Commander, Lt Col Myers-Allen heard
that i was a professional chef and persuaded me to cook
for the cadets at the Priestley Centre in Coniston for their
annual adventure training camp.
I eventually retired in 2016 and moved to Hampshire but
soon stumbled back into work at a local nursery and still
remain loyally connected to the College as the CCF chef.

PAUL BONNER
(G61-64) got in touch with a new email
address.
PHIL BOWER (G65-74) at the end of 2018 sent an
update as a result of receiving the Yearbook. He and
Dee had obtained their local “skipper’s ticket” and were
now licensed to drive power boats “the fools!”. They
had also acquired a pure-bred Ridgeback pup. They
have also extended their home and had a visit from older
brother NIGEL (G58-68) in January 2019. He and Dee
celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary in 2019.
