PEMBROKE
HOUSE
OUR HOPES LAST YEAR
FOR 2018-2019 WERE
THAT PEMBROKE’S
SPIRIT, KINDNESS AND
ASPIRATION WOULD
DEVELOP FURTHER.
We haven’t been disappointed and we
perhaps even surprised a few with our
successes along the way!
Under the superb leadership of Head of
House, Ella Sunderland, we continued and
consolidated our belief in #togetherness.
We developed our vertical tutoring and
continued to foster the connections between
day and boarding, old and young, through
the introduction of ‘Pembroke families’.
House evenings encouraged the putting
aside of social media and technology
and the putting of good old-fashioned
friendships first (the humble jigsaw puzzle
now has pride of place in the common
room!). The girls were encouraged to
continue to think selflessly; most notably
seen in their support of charities such as
‘Tom’s Trust’.
Driving forward a passion for success
has also been prevalent this year and a
simple sign of the girls’ achievements has

been the need for a new trophy cabinet!
Academically, all the girls have pushed and
pushed and we couldn’t have been prouder
of how they have stretched themselves. Year
13 have been tremendous role models and
we thank them for all they have done. As
the last year group of the ‘Taylor years’,
they leave big shoes to fill but the girls
stepping up in 2019-2020, (to be led by
new Head of House, Millie Finbow) are
superbly placed to propel us headfirst into
the ‘North’ years and we’re very excited to
see what comes next in our story.
