SUBJECTS
GEOGRAPHY
GEOGRAPHY IS ONE OF THE
MOST POPULAR SUBJECTS
STUDIED AT FRAMLINGHAM
COLLEGE.
This is perhaps because it deals with real
and relevant issues facing our world today,
developing analytical and problem-solving
skills. Our students are very globally aware,
and many are now rightly starting to take
notice of our impact on the planet and how
this can be reduced.
In the Geography department, we pride
ourselves on embracing a spirit of enquiry,
with no less than nine successful field trips
to locations such as Southwold, Ipswich,
Reading, North Norfolk, Great Yarmouth
and Iceland. We have also further
embraced technology by purchasing a class
set of Virtual Reality Goggles; this helps to
give students a contextual understanding
of anywhere in the world through a virtual
visit.
The Geography Society has held many
well attended events throughout the year,
some of which included: James Christie,
postgraduate researcher at UEA, discussing
the creation of a computer model to
predict and track lahar movements, Royal
Geographical Society Ambassadors talking
to students about studying Geography at
University, A Level students sharing their
experiences of the Land of Ice and Fire, and
students being imprisoned in a Rainforestthemed Escape Room.
Geography at University in Newcastle
and Bristol. I would like to thank the
department staff for welcoming me as Head
of Department, as well as the enthusiastic
and interested young geographers at the
College who make teaching the subject
such a pleasure.
