Like Mrs Russell this will be my last report
on the English Department as I hand over
the reins to Lucy Manning before retirement
calls next July. Lucy and Mrs Coventry-King
joined the department this year and we say
goodbye to Mrs Atkin who will be much
missed.

prize and to Evie Newton, Megan Pleasants
and Elly Rampton for the Reading prizes.
Poetry by Heart was our first event of
the year – with all pupils in Years 5 to 8
learning their chosen poem to present to
their classes and Charlie Hall and Sofia
Odiz winning the final – many thanks to Mr
Bilton and Mr Goldsmith for judging.
The Spelling Bee followed with James
Tennant being our outright winner but with
a host of Spelling Champions from every
spelling set from Year 2 to Year 8. World
Book Day’s theme was Mr Men and Little
Misses, and a wonderfully colourful array of
guises were carried around the school and
helped raise funds for BookAid.
Visiting author Rebecca Patterson held an
engaging afternoon with Year 2, a party
of Year 7 and 8 pupils met with Michael
Morpurgo, and some of our Able Writers
attended a course at the Red House in
Aldeburgh.
Our Common Entrance results were most
pleasing and we wish all Year 8 success in
